What Makes a Project "Good"?
Margin is only part of the answer project managers give when asked what "success" looks like — it also has to ship on time and leave the team and the client glad they did it. Most reporting only captures the first, because it's the easiest number to pull from an invoicing system.
Three Lenses, Not One Traffic Light
Every project is scored across three independent lenses:
Finance — billed vs. revenue and hours delivered, flagging overdue invoices early. Progress — schedule elapsed vs. hours delivered, and days overrun. Satisfaction — client-reported quality, communication, and likelihood to recommend.
One red lens is enough to flag the whole project — a strong margin doesn't get to hide a client losing confidence.
